RFSL wants special treatment for Iraqi gay refugees

The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights wants the Swedish government to gave special rights to Iraqis who are gay.

"'They Want Us Exterminated': Murder, Torture, Sexual Orientation and Gender in Iraq," was the report titled by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) about the kidnapping, torture, and murder of gay Iraqi men.

In the report it claimed that many Iraqi men were living in fear from the Mahdi army militia. Being fundamentally Islamic in the way they are run, homosexuality is punishable by death.

According to another report by Amnesty International, 25 gay men have been murdered by the group this year alone.

There is much debate as to whether sexual orientation is grounds for complete immunity. The RFSL federation however argues that this because of the threat to their lives, it is straight forward.
